Shigeo Shiga

b. 1928, Tokyo, Japan. After 10 years of study in tea ceremony ware Shigeo set up his own workshop in Yamashina, Kyoto. He was invited to Australia in 1965 to work at the Sturt Ceramic Workshop and remained in Australia for the next 15 years. He has been a strong influence on Australian ceramics having taught many Australian potters who have since come to prominence. A large collection of his work is in the Asian Gallery of the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
