Uranishi Kenji

Born in Nara, Japan in 1973, Kenji Uranishi studied ceramics at the Nara College of Fine Arts graduating in 1996. In 1998, he opened his home studio, Kenkoubou (Nara) where he worked for six years. There, he produced work that earned him a number of special selection and prize placements in national ceramics and other competitions.
Kenji exhibited his work throughout Japan in venues ranging from small gallery spaces to large municipal museums. He taught ceramics to a range of students at his home studio in Nara, at a studio in Osaka and at kindergartens on a freelance basis.
In October 2004, Kenji moved to Australia and has since had three exhibitions in Brisbane, including his first solo exhibition. During 2005, Kenji was an artist in residence at Southbank Tafe and Gateway Tafe and is currently sharing a studio space with two artists.
